LG dumps the “Optimus” brand for its premium phones; G2 first device with the new name

LG G2

In an everything but surprising move, LG decided to dump the “Optimus” brand for its high-end smarthones. And obviously the first device that will be affected by this change is the soon-to-be-launch LG Optimus G2, which will be one of the thinnest and most powerful devices every announced.

In addition, the company’s Optimus Vu range with 4:3 screens will also follow suit with the next phablet in series to be known simply as “Vu: something” (like: Vu: 3).

According to LG’s president and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park, the idea is to make G devices “synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience.” He went on to add: “The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G Series products.”

From what we know, the G2 will sport Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 800 processor and a 5.2-inch full HD edge-to-edge screen…
