The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation today approved the nomination of Tom Wheeler for Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Wheeler was nominated by President Barack Obama earlier this year. Wheeler has already led the National Cable Television Association and the CTIA. Wheeler succeeds Julius Genachowski, who left the FCC in May. Commissioner Mignon Clyburn has acted as FCC chairperson until Wheeler's confirmation today.
