Apple today filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm over power-management patents. The claim counters a July lawsuit filed by Qualcomm against Apple. Apple says certain Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are violating its patents with respect to battery life. The Apple patents in question ensure that a phone's processor draws only the minimum amount of power needed, turning on and off to make the most efficient use of the CPU. Apple asserts that Qualcomm's patents regarding these technologies are invalid and were awarded after Apple had already developed its own, similar technology. The company says Qualcomm is violating at least eight power-management patents in the Snapdragon 800 and 820 processors. This week's lawsuit is the latest move in a lengthy, on-going series of patent battles between Apple and Qualcomm.
