Microsoft’s BUILD conference is set to kick off this week in San Francisco where we hope to see Windows Phone 8.1 officially unveiled. Even before it starts, the rumors have started piling up. One of them suggests that the first phones running the upcoming OS will launch on April 23rd, and these will likely be the Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 930, as well as Samsung ATIV SE (for Verizon Wireless).
According to WPcentral, the final build of Windows Phone 8.1 is already in the hands of Microsoft’s partners and they’re apparently working round the clock to have the devices ready for prime time.
What’s not clear though is when existing phones will get their updates. As far as I’ve understood, the priority is to launch new phones first and only later deal with “legacy products.” We tend to think Microsoft (and its partners) will be quick to address current device owners’ issues but as I’m writing this, we’ve no idea when the first updates will start rolling out. We do hope to get that answer later this week. Stay tuned…
