T-Mobile today revealed what it expects to do with the 700MHz spectrum it recently acquired from Verizon Wireless. The company said this block of spectrum covers 158 million Americans, or 9 of the top 10 - and 21 of the top 30 - markets around the country. Some of the major metro areas include New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, Washington D.C., and Detroit. T-Mobile will deploy LTE on its 700MHz spectrum in order to supplement its existing LTE network. It expects to light up its first 700MHz markets before the end of the year. T-Mobile say it already has 10x10MHz 4G LTE in 43 of the top 50 metro areas, with download speeds in those areas maxing out at 72 Mbps. Further, T-Mobile has already begun deployments of wideband LTE with 15x15MHz and 20x20MHz, which it claims will eventually provide download speeds up to 147Mbps. Most major network operators have launched LTE across significant portions of the country. With build-outs complete, operators are turning to improved coverage and speeds in order to lure in customers.
