Facebook for Every Phone now running on 100 million handsets

Java-based Facebook for Every Phone is now running on 100 million feature phones across the world. That figure doesn’t include smartphone apps which are available for all major platforms, but those devices that usually cost $20-$100 sans any strings attached and are mostly used in emerging markets of the world like India, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Just because it’s a Java-based app, it doesn’t mean users get a half-baked Facebook experience. Some features are missing but the main ones are there, including News Feed, Messenger and Photos, along with the ability to create a new account and find friends (for first-time users). What’s more, Facebook for Every Phone is especially designed to use less data than other Java apps and mobile sites, making it more affordable to try and use. Like that’s not enough, the social networking giant also has partnerships with many mobile operators to offer free or discounted data access to the application.

Facebook For Every Phone is powered by technology created by Snaptu, an Israel-based mobile platform which was acquired by Facebook in 2011.
