Remember ClamBook, the laptop shell that was never released? Acer seems to think there’s money to be made from something similar, hence it’s showcasing its Extend concept at IFA.
Just like the ClamBook, this device doesn’t have its own CPU, relying on your smartphone’s processing power instead. Aside from a built-in keyboard, the Extend also comes with a 6,000mAh battery that is not only used to power Extend’s big screen, but also to recharge your phone while it’s connect to Extend.
Speaking of connecting, the Extend relies on an MHL cable to get what it needs from a smartphone, and Acer even said that the final version, if released, may get a retractable cable built right inside the laptop shell.
Pretty sweet, though at this point we’re not sure whether Acer will ever launch Extend. And even if that happens, we’ll have to wait for early next year to see it hitting the local store shelves. I know I want one, how about you?
