After Google, Samsung is entering into patent cross-license agreement with Cisco

Just when we’ve told you that Google has signed into patent cross-license agreement with Cisco, Samsung is following suit with the same kind of deal. Effective immediately, the agreement will let the two parties (Samsung and Cisco) gain access to each other’s patent portfolios, covering “a broad range of products and technologies” for both existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

“Innovation is stifled all too often in today’s overly-litigious environment,” said Dan Lang, Cisco’s Vice President of Intellectual Property. “By cross-licensing our patent portfolios, Cisco and Samsung are taking important steps to reverse the trend and advance innovation and freedom of operation.”

According to Samsung, this type of patent agreement reduces the risk of potential litigation and instead puts the focus on innovation for future products and services. In other words, they don’t want to be in the situation they’re currently in with Apple.
