Microsoft invests in Foursquare with plans to include their location data in Bing, Windows and Windows Phone

Foursquare has a major new investor – Microsoft, which invested $15 million in the company. At the same time, the Redmond giant has also struck a deal to license Foursquare’s database to improve Bing local search results.

But that’s not all. According to Foursquare, Microsoft will use this location data to improve experience in Windows and Windows Phone. We’re not sure what these guys are up to, but we can expect to see more location-based results in the next update to Microsoft’s platforms.

Foursquare says that Microsoft will “provide contextually-aware experiences and the best recommendations of any service in the world.”

Yeah, we’re having hard time imagining how M$ engineers will integrate Foursquare data into various Windows platforms (it’s fairly easy to see improved Bing local search result), and can only hope that the end result will be cool. We’ll let you know as soon as we have something new on this. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?
