HTC won’t give up that easily and leave its lunch to Samsung. The company’s CEO and co-founder Peter Chou hopes that the phones like the newly announced All New One as well as the low-cost Desire series will help it grow its market share again, and eventually reach 8-10% of the total smartphone market. In addition, the Taiwanese company will also be re-joining the tablet space and launch its very first wearable device “at the appropriate time.”
Rumors we’ve heard before suggest that HTC could end-up making one of the upcoming Nexus tablets, likely the one with an 8.9-inch screen which will come with a premium price tag and top-notch specs under the hood. Moreover, we would assume that won’t be the only HTC tablet unveiled this year, with the Taiwanese company joining the market for the Christmas shopping season.
As for that wearable device, HTC will adopt the Android Wear platform and announce a smart watch before the end of the year.
It remains to be seen whether all this will help the company get back to the A league. Hong Kong-based C.K. Cheng, an analyst at brokerage firm CLSA Ltd., isn’t convinced. According to him, HTC will have though time competing with Samsung’s massive marketing budget, despite having a sexier flagship device (the All New One).
At the end of 2013, HTC was holding less than 5% of the global smartphone market.
