Sony seems to be struggling to make deals with U.S. carriers. The company’s newly announced Xperia Z2 will only be available in its unlocked, SIM free form from Sony’s website where users will be required to pay a small fortune for the smartphone. In return, they get the freedom which isn’t tied to any contracts.

Nevertheless, the majority of folks get their phones from mobile operators, which offer them at subsidized rates (with a contract). The fact that Sony’s flagship won’t be available from any U.S. carrier doesn’t really “work” for the Japanese giant which is struggling to stay relevant in the mobile game, despite launching some great phones.
