T-Mobile Adds New $40 Monthly “Simple Starter” Plan To Simple Choice Lineup

In a bid to attract more attention over the next three days of planned UnCarrier announcements, T-Mobile has officially made the first announcement in the campaign by adding a new $40 Simple Choice service plan that the carrier is dubbing Simple Starter.

Simple StarterUnlike the standard $50-80 Simple Choice plan slate which pushes international access and roaming as a key feature, Simple Starter is meant for the T-Mobile customer that wants all of the advantages of the Simple Choice plan without the extra cost of the additional roaming access and data offered on the higher plan tiers.

Without the international roaming access, Simple Starter starts to resemble the sibling MetroPCS $40 monthly plan, which features the same unlimited voice and messaging access along with the same 500MB monthly data access without overages. However, unlike the MetroPCS plan, the Simple Starter plan does not include all taxes and fees and is even listed as a limited time promotion in all of the PR for the plan’s launch.

Other key differences between T-Mobile’s Simple Starter and the MetroPCS plans lie in the support for T-Mobile’s Equipment Installment Plan with approved credit, the JUMP! early upgrade program and the carrier’s Contract Freedom contract buyout offer as well as adding support for 500MB of device tethering per month along with the 500MB of on-device data access before throttling. The plan will be added to T-Mobile’s plan slate beginning on April 12th.
